Chief Minister visits Theppakadu Elephant Camp

Chief Minister M.K.Stalin inaugurates mahout village at Theppakadu Elephant Camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, plans more development works.
Chief Minister M.K.Stalin visited the Theppakadu Elephant Camp in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) in the Nilgiris, where he inaugurated 44 houses built specially for mahouts at the elephant camp on Tuesday.
Mr. Stalin inaugurated the mahout village which was constructed at a cost of Rs. 5.6 crore where 44 houses for 44 families have been constructed. Speaking to reporters following the inauguration, Mr. Stalin said that more development works are planned for the Tiger Reserve, and said that he was a regular visitor to the Nilgiris, praising the district’s salubrious climate.
The Chief Minister also flagged off 32 vehicles that were handed over to the forest department, following which he fed the captive elephants kept at the Theppakadu Elephant Camp.
Mr. Stalin fed sugarcane to a few of the elephants, and was accompanied by Secretary of Environment, Climate Change and Forest Department, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Srinivas Reddy, Chief Wildlife Warden, Rakesh Dogra, Nilgiris Lok Sabha MP, A. Raja, collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru and other top officials from the forest department.
Earlier, Mr. Stalin stopped along the route to Theppakadu and spoke to Adivasi residents near Mavanallah, asking if they had any grievances that needed to be addressed.
Mr. Stalin will be in the Nilgiris to inaugurate the 127th annual flower show in Udhagamandalam on Thursday.
