Police have registered a case after a Class 1 student at a private school in Bengaluru was allegedly made to stand under the scorching sun for two hours as punishment for arriving late, officials said on Saturday.
The incident reportedly took place at a school in Yelahanka Attur Layout. According to police, the child’s parents alleged that the boy was punished for being just two minutes late to class and was forced to stand in the sun for nearly two hours.
When the parents confronted the school’s principal about the alleged punishment, they claimed she behaved rudely and arrogantly. The parents accused the school staff of misbehaviour and demanded an explanation from the administration.
The issue gained wider attention after a video showing the principal being questioned by the parents surfaced on social media platform X on Saturday.
Responding to the video, the Bengaluru City Police said they had taken serious note of the incident and stressed that subjecting children to physical or mental suffering is a punishable offence.
"We have taken serious note of the incident reported under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, regarding the reported incident where a child was allegedly made to stand under the sun for two hours as punishment for being late. Subjecting children to physical or mental suffering is a punishable offence," the police said in the post, PTI reported.

The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
