Bombay HC rejects pleas by Anil Deshmukh, Nawab Malik to vote for Maharashtra Legislative Council polls

The Bombay High Court rejected the pleas filed by Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh seeking permission to vote in the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council election.
The Bombay High Court on Friday rejected the petitions filed by Maharashtra Cabinet minister Nawab Malik and former home minister of state, Anil Deshmukh seeking permission to vote in the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) election. The election will take place on June 20.
The bench presided by Justice NJ Jamadar said they will furnish the written order by Friday evening.
Responding to this, advocate Amit Desai appearing for Nawab Malik asked the bench to give the order a little earlier as the election is on Monday. Malik’s legal team plans on approaching the Supreme Court by Monday morning. However, Deshmukh’s legal team said the time is too limited as the apex court is on vacation.
Nawab Malik is currently in judicial custody for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case involving underworld don Dawood Ibrahim under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) .
Meanwhile, Anil Deshmukh, who is also in judicial custody, is the prime accused in the probe initiated by the ED after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an FIR following a court-directed enquiry.
Earlier, a Mumbai court had rejected the petitions filed by Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh seeking permission to vote in the Rajya Sabha polls.
