A marine engineer from Bihar has been killed in an Iranian attack on a US-flagged cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz, leaving his family in shock and grief as they appeal to the government to bring his body back to India.
Devanandan Prasad Singh, also known as Pappu Ji, was a resident of Rani Bamiyan village in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. He died on March 11 after the cargo vessel he was working on came under attack during the escalating conflict in the region.
The ship was operating near the Khor Al Zubair port close to the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic waterway between Iran and Oman.
According to details from the incident, the vessel was carrying 48,000 metric tonnes of naphtha when it was targeted during the attack.
The strike was carried out using an unmanned explosive-laden speedboat launched by an Iranian submarine, leading to a deadly blast on the ship.
Singh, a marine engineer on board the vessel, died in the attack.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
