Bicycles given to school students in Talavadi Hills
To prevent dropouts due to lack of transportation from Solagar Thotti to the Government High School in Bynapuram, Talavadi Hills, six bicycles were distributed free of cost to Class X students on Thursday.
The initiative was taken by the Thalavadi Farmers Foundation, with support from the Rotary Clubs of Sathyamangalam and Talavadi Hills, along with contributions from individuals. The bicycles were presented to students in the school by R. Sathish, president of Bynapuram panchayat, Jaya Chitra, headmistress in-charge and foundation director S. Kannaiyan.
The village is located about five km from the school, and students have to walk for 1.5 k.m. to reach the bus stop at Kalmandipuram to board the TNSTC bus. Due to the remote location of the village, other modes of transportation are unavailable, which has led to a rise in student dropouts.
Recognising this challenge, the foundation stepped in with the initiative to provide bicycles, aiming to easing students’ commute and support their education, said Mr. Kannaiyan. “This initiative demonstrates the commitment of the foundation and its partners to make education accessible, even in the most remote communities,” he added.
