A Bengaluru-based chartered accountant’s monthly expense breakdown has sparked scrutiny online, with users questioning her entertainment spend and what it says about urban living costs.
“I live in Bengaluru and here is my cost of living,” Meenal Goel said in her post on LinkedIn as she listed her household expenses. She clarified that the figures are for a family of two, adding that the monthly rent for a 2BHK apartment is Rs 37,000.
Food and groceries cost Rs 15,000, transportation Rs 5,000, utilities Rs 4,000, and househelp Rs 4,000. She also allocated Rs 17,000 to “entertainment and others,” which includes eating out and gym membership.
In total, the family spends Rs 82,000 per month, amounting to Rs 9.84 lakh annually.

In the comments section of the post, several users scrutinised specific parts of the list, particularly the Rs 17,000 entertainment budget. One person questioned the inclusion of eating out and a gym membership in the same category, saying, “Eating out and then gym membership? Seems like didn’t learn finance properly.”
