Bajaj Chetak electric scooter now available in New Delhi, Mumbai and Goa

With the latest expansion in sales network, the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is now available in 20 cities across India carrying a price tag of Rs 1.48 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Bajaj Auto has announced that its network for the Chetak electric scooter has expanded to 20 cities, increasing two-fold in a matter of six weeks. The waiting period for the electric two-wheeler stands at 4 to 8 weeks, with bookings also available online at the company’s website at an amount of Rs 2,000.

Its reach has been expanded to 12 more cities - Coimbatore, Madurai, Kochi, Kozhikode, Hubli, Visakhapatnam, Nashik, Vasai, Surat, Delhi, Mumbai and Mapusa - in addition to the 8 outlets Bajaj set up in 2021. Now present in the busiest cities of India, Bajaj has earmarked an amount of Rs 300 crore to be utilised for increasing production of the Chetak.

Commenting on the occasion, Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, Bajaj Auto said, “Chetak’s success has been built on the quality of a thoroughly tested, dependable product. An on-ground network of sales and service reduces the anxiety of a customer venturing into an unfamiliar category such as electric scooters. Our plan is to double Chetak's network in the coming few weeks to accommodate the high demand.”

The revival of the Chetak name has been a monumental effort by Bajaj as it entered the electric two-wheeler category. The Chetak currently is one of the premium offerings in the premium segment, commanding a price tag of more than one lakh (ex-showroom) for its Premium trim.

Mimicking the Chetak of old visually and built with steel-body panels to ensure longevity, the new scooter has a 90km range in Eco mode (claimed).

Powered by a 3.8kWh motor with a 5bhp and 16.2Nm torque output, a home charger can juice up the battery in 5 hours, with 25 per cent charge available in an hour. It features LED headlamps and DRLs, sequential turn indicators, a coloured instrument panel with smartphone connectivity and more.
