Budget Session's second part cancelled by BJP, AAP, and Congress criticize BJP for avoiding questions and hiding failures.
The second part of the Budget Session, which was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, was cancelled on Monday. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress attacked the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for cancelling the two-day session to “avoid answering questions” and for “hiding its failures”.
The first part of the session started on March 24 and saw Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who also holds the Finance portfolio, table a ₹1-lakh-crore budget. In the second session, the CM was likely to introduce the draft Bill on regulating private school fees, which was approved by the Cabinet last month.
The session was cancelled based on directions from the Chief Minister’s Office, said a source.
The source added that the Assembly will now likely be convened for the Monsoon Session in July.
“The sitting of the Second Part of the Second Session (Budget Session) of the Eighth Legislative Assembly of Delhi, scheduled to be held on 13th and 14th May, 2025 has been cancelled,” read an official communication from the Assembly without specifying any reason.
AAP’s Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The entire BJP is on the back foot due to the untimely [India-Pakistan] ceasefire declared by the U.S. The Assembly session has been cancelled as the BJP is now running away from the questions of the public.”
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav alleged that after making many tall promises to the people of the city, the BJP government is “now trying to run away from reality and cover up its failures” by cancelling the Assembly session.
