The TMC on Friday (April 3, 2026) sought the immediate removal of the Returning Officer for the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency in West Bengal, alleging his proximity to BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari.
In a representation submitted to West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal, the ruling party raised objections to the appointment of RO for the Bhabanipur seat in southern Kolkata.
The BJP, part of the AIADMK-led NDA in Tamil Nadu, released its list of all 27 candidates for the Assembly elections on Friday (April 3, 2026), while the Congress announced candidates for 27 of the 28 constituencies allotted to it by the DMK.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee blamed AIMIM and ISF for the gherao of judicial officers in Malda district and accused the Congress and the BJP of instigation.
Assam, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Puducherry will go to the polls on April 9, 2026. In Tamil Nadu, the election will be conducted on April 23. The first phase of elections will be held on April 23, 2026, in West Bengal, and the second phase on April 29, 2026. The counting for all these elections will be held on May 4, 2026.
