Bengaluru police arrest one suspect in assault and robbery case, recovering stolen items valued over ₹3 lakh.
An autorickshaw driver was assaulted and robbed by two unidentified persons who had booked his vehicle through a ride-hailing app in early March. The police have now arrested one of the accused and have recovered stolen valuables worth over ₹3 lakh.
According to the police, the incident occurred on March 1, when the complainant, a resident of Rayasandra in Electronic City, accepted a ride request between 10.30 a.m. and 10.45 a.m. near Electronic City–Huskur.
The two accused allegedly directed him towards Devanahalli, claiming a mistake in the pickup location. Upon reaching the KIADB Industrial Area near Jonnahalli village, the accused allegedly assaulted him and attacked him with a knife. The assailants then robbed the driver of two mobile phones, his autorickshaw, and cash. Based on the complaint, a robbery case was registered at the Bagalur Police Station.
The police pursued multiple leads and arrested one of the accused on March 25 at a rehabilitation centre near Harlur. Further interrogation led to the disclosure of the location where the stolen autorickshaw had been abandoned. Subsequently, between March 27 and March 31, the police recovered the autorickshaw and the two stolen mobile phones. The total value of the recovered valuables is estimated at ₹3.20 lakh. Now, the police are in search of the other accused.
