The police detained Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed for the provocative and communal remarks he made on the Assam Movement martyrs while speaking on the recent eviction drive in Dholpur. Officials of Dispur police station in Guwahati picked up the Baghbor MLA from his residence on Saturday evening.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh told India Today TV over phone that the police had detained Sherman Ali Ahmed for questioning.
