Apple facing antitrust case in India over its in-app payment fee, says report
India Today
Apple is reportedly facing an antitrust case in India over its App Store, where app developers do not have any other option but to use the company's in-app payments system.
India is the latest market for Apple, where it now potentially faces an antitrust case by asking developers to use its in-app payments service. Apple had earlier prohibited app developers from contacting consumers over email for payment-related communication. While Apple allows app developers to sell their services directly, for all in-app purchases within apps downloaded through the App Store, developers have to use the iOS payment mechanism and pay Apple a fee between 15 to 30 per cent of gross sales. In the US, Apple has been sued by Epic, a game-maker, over this practice. Google, which too charges a fee from developers and takes a cut of the in-app purchases made by consumers, is also facing allegations of monopolistic practices.
