Anthropic says AI writing nearly 100 percent code internally, Claude basically writes itself now

AI is writing almost 100 percent of code at Anthropic now. This essentially means that Claude is writing Claude.

Anthropic is fast approaching 100 percent automation internally, at least as far as humans writing code by hand is concerned. The company behind the viral Claude Code and Cowork coding tools, is currently using AI to generate nearly 100 percent of its code. The confirmation came from Anthropic’s chief product officer Mike Krieger during Cisco’s recent AI Summit. The company had previously pegged that this number would be 90 percent but clearly, Anthropic has gone a step forward. In other words, Claude is writing itself, now.

“Claude is being written by Claude. Claude products and Claude code are being entirely written by Claude,” Krieger said in a conversation with Cisco president Jeetu Patel. The confirmation means that in the last few months, Anthropic has doubled down on the usage of Claude within the company. Last year, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had he could see the company use AI for 90 percent coding.

Krieger said Anthropic is now routinely producing “2 to 3,000-line pull requests,” particularly within its fast-moving labs team. He added that the company has put the right systems in place to build trust in the AI’s output, saying, “what we’ve done is created all the right scaffolds around it to let us trust it.”

Anthropic’s consumer-facing products prove conclusively that Claude is a major hit among coders. Zoho co-founder and CEO Sridhar Vembu recently called it the best coding AI tool in the world. With the latest Opus 4.6 update, Anthropic has shown that Claude can make C compilers with ease, something that isn’t easy even for many professionals. At the same time, its coding tool for non-technical people, which is Claude Cowork, has recently put SaaS or Software as a Service companies like Infosys and TCS on notice.

When AI is writing 100 percent code then wonders, what is that humans are doing. Krieger has reiterated that humans are now involved in oversight and verification. This means that the final code is still being vetted by humans. Question then arises, what about coding jobs at scale? With Dario Amodei himself going on record to say that AI will wipe out 50 percent of white-collar jobs by 2030, there is growing concern if writing software manually will soon become redundant which is what many industry veterans like the creator of NodeJS Ryan Dahl are also flagging. Sridhar Vembu in fact has even urged software engineers to look for alternate careers. “We better pay attention to him because he has the best coding tool in the world,” he said while reacting to Amodei’s video from the World Economic Forum 2026 at Davos where the Anthropic CEO had openly claimed that “software engineering will be completely obsolete in 6-12 months.”
