AMD Ryzen 6000 processors officially debut in laptops with ROG Zephyrus G14 2022

AMD Ryzen 6000 processors officially debut in laptops with ROG Zephyrus G14 2022

Unveiled at the CES this year, AMD's new range of mobile processors promises to bring a performance and efficiency revolution in laptops of all prices.

With Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 2022 going on pre-orders, AMD's Ryzen 6000 series of processors has officially marked its debut for the global audience. The new chipset is aimed at building thinner, lighter, and more power-efficient laptops than was possible before. For this, it brings Zen 3 Plus architecture as well as AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics architecture for the first time on mobile processors.

AMD promises some serious performance upgrades with the new chips. The company first unveiled the Ryzen 6000 series at CES 2022 as the successor to its Ryzen 5000 series of laptop processors. At the time, it claimed that the new chips can deliver 1.3 times faster processing and a 2x improvement in gaming performance on laptops. All this, with up to 24 hours of battery life.

The Ryzen 6000 series comprises 13 different types of mobile chipsets, categorised under its "H" and "U" lineups. The H marquee comes for premium laptops meant for gaming and creators, while the U series caters to sleek, lightweight laptops. The new Zephyrus G14 uses the Ryzen 9 6900HS, just next in line to the two flagship chipsets in the series - Ryzen 9 6980HS and 6980HX.

With them, the processors bring AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics architecture, a graphics platform we have seen on the best of gaming consoles like the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. Thanks to this, AMD promises up to twice the graphics performance with the Ryzen 6000 series, as compared to Ryzen 5000 chips. Other helping features include hardware accelerated raytracing, variable rate shading, up to 128MB of AMD Infinity Cache, DirectX 12 Ultimate and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution. The result - gamers will be able to play at up to 4K, 60 fps across select titles on their laptops.

Other than this, the new processors promise super-fast clock speeds across the range. The flagship Ryzen 9 6980HX has been recorded with up to 5.0GHz maximum boosted clock speed, making it the “fastest Ryzen product” ever. AMD also released some benchmarks on its range of processors and their integrated graphics recently. The chipsets were found to be better than the market competition in each comparison.

While the Zephyrus G14 is just the beginning of its market appearance, the Ryzen 6000 series of processors is expected to power gaming laptops from major OEMs soon. Ryzen 6000 powered laptops from the likes of Asus, Alienware, Acer, Lenovo, Razer, and others are likely to hit the international markets in the coming weeks.
