All 13 accused in Murshidabad father-son murder are locals, some known to the family

West Bengal police arrest 13 locals in connection with brutal father-son murder case in Murshidabad, ongoing investigation.
Most of the accused in the Murshidabad father-son murder case were locals known to the victims and their family, a high-ranking official of West Bengal police told The Hindu on Tuesday (May 13, 2025).
On Tuesday, West Bengal police made their 13th arrest in connection with the Jafrabad murder. The accused, Yusuf Sheikh, is a resident of Dighri village in the same area. He was apprehended from the nearby Suti Police Station area.

A month back, on April 12, father-son duo Harogobind Das and Chandan Das were dragged out of their home in Jafrabad in the Samsherganj police station area of Murshidabad, and brutally murdered allegedly in communal violence, the West Bengal police had said earlier.
Additionally, on April 11 and April 12, properties and vehicles were also torched and vandalised in the area by a mob protesting against the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, forcing many residents of Samsherganj’s Dhulian municipality and Tinpakuria gram panchayat to flee.
The West Bengal police officer on Tuesday added that all 13 accused who have been apprehended so far in connection with the murder are locals of the area, most of them aged 35 or under.
Roughly two of them were arrested from Odisha, three were arrested from Jharkhand, and the rest were arrested from different parts of West Bengal.
