Affordable Kia EV incoming? Syros EV spied testing in India
India Today
Spy shots of the upcoming Kia Syros EV suggest Kia is gearing up to expand its mass-market electric portfolio, with its compact SUV set to become one of the brand's most accessible EV offerings.
The all-electric version of the Kia Syros has been spotted testing on Indian roads, signalling that the brand’s most affordable EV for our market is edging closer to launch. While the test mule remains heavily camouflaged, a few key details set it apart from its ICE-powered sibling.
Fresh spy images confirm that the charging port is positioned on the left front fender, integrated above the wheel arch. This placement clearly distinguishes it from the internal combustion-engined (ICE) Syros and confirms that Kia is preparing a dedicated electric iteration rather than a hybrid update.
The silhouette remains upright and boxy, staying true to the Syros’ design philosophy. However, subtle revisions are visible. The rear bumper appears to feature a tweaked layout with a mix of body-coloured and contrasting elements, while the roof rails seem to have been reworked. The alloy wheels look similar in size to the ICE version’s 17-inch units, although the test car sports bright green brake calipers, a styling cue previously seen on the Kia Seltos. Up front, the vertically stacked LED headlamps and L-shaped daytime running lights appear unchanged. The front bumper houses sensors for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), along with a 360-degree camera setup. At the rear, the vertically oriented LED tail-lamps are retained, maintaining visual continuity with the standard Syros.
The interior of the Syros EV has not yet been photographed, but Kia is expected to carry over much of the layout from the petrol model. If that proves accurate, buyers can expect the large 30-inch Trinity display setup (dual 12.3-inch screens), a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front and rear seats, wireless charging and a comprehensive ADAS suite.
That said, the electric variant could introduce EV-specific additions such as vehicle-to-load (V2L) and possibly vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) functionality, enhancing its practicality credentials.
