Activists urge authorities to clean Thulakkattam for Masi Magam, ensuring water availability for devotees in Mayiladuthurai.
With Masi Magam approaching on March 12, activists have urged authorities to clean the Thulakkattam in Mayiladuthurai and ensure water availability in the Pushkar pond for the convenience of devotees.
Social activist A. Apparsundaram has called for immediate action to clear accumulated waste and stagnant plastic debris in the sacred river area, emphasizing the need for a clean environment ahead of the religious observances.
Thulakkattam Cauvery is considered a sacred site where devotees take ritual baths to seek absolution from sins, according to Hindu beliefs. With Masi Magam expected to draw hundreds of devotees for ritual bathing and ancestral remembrance, devotees are urging authorities to implement sanitation measures.
Additionally, the lack of water in the Cauvery has raised concerns about devotees’ ability to perform rituals. Mr. Apparsundaram suggested that the Pushkar pond, which was constructed during the Cauvery Pushkaram festival, be filled with water using borewell pumps to ensure devotees had access to a proper bathing facility.
Officials from Mayiladuthurai Municipality said they would look into the issue and the premises would be cleaned before next week.
