Absconding PFI leader Abdul Mateen Shekhani surrenders in Mumbai court

PFI leader Abdul Mateen Shekhani, who had been abscoding for four days, surrendered in Thane court on Monday. A FIR had been registered against him for holding an unauthorised protest.
Popular Front of India (PFI) leader Abdul Mateen Shekhani, who was absconding for four days, surrendered in Thane court on Monday, as reported by ANI.
A FIR was registered against the PFI Mumbra President in the Mumbra area of Thane district for holding an unauthorised protest on April 15. The police had booked the Maharashtra PFI leader under IPC section 188 and sections 37(3) and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act for an illegal gathering where he allegedly gave an inciting speech.

Shekhani was protesting against the violence during the Ram Navami processions in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and other states. He had claimed that Muslims were being oppressed in the country and said that some people wanted to disturb the atmosphere of Mumbra. "If you trouble us, we won't leave you," Shekhani had said, citing the phrase as the organisation's slogan.
Shekhani had also reacted to the MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s statement on the removal of loudspeakers from mosques, claiming that if they touch a single loudspeaker then PFI will be seen at the front line.
“If you touch even a single loudspeaker, then PFI will be seen at the forefront,” Shekhani had claimed.
