The move is expected to benefit nearly 2.7 lakh Dalit students, helping them pursue higher education, including costly professional courses.
In a major push to promote educational equality, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on Thursday distributed post-matric scholarships worth Rs 271 crore to students from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community across the state.
The scholarships were handed over at an event in Jalandhar under the government’s flagship initiative ‘Mission Rangla Punjab’.
The party said that the move is expected to benefit nearly 2.7 lakh Dalit students, helping them pursue higher education, including costly professional courses such as medical and engineering.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent students from marginalised communities from accessing quality education.

AAP Punjab highlighted the step on its social media handle, stating that the Mann government is "taking new steps in the field of education every day.” The party noted that the scholarship support would ease the burden on needy students and families.
