A Villupuram resident and a tractor on stand by at inundation-prone spot in Thiruvanmiyur
The Hindu
These are times when a tractor parked at an inundation-prone spot sets off a predictable question in the mind. Which district is the human at the wheel from? At Anna Street in Thiruvanmiyur, on October 3, 2025, that question being asked, the human on the tractor, P. Periannaswami answered it, “Villupuram”, a natural affability, untouched by urban coldness, shining through a smile half-toothy and half-toothless. Located not too far from the gates of Kalakshetra Foundation’s Craft, Education & Research Centre, this spot gets quickly saturated with rainwater and fills up a section of the road, much like a first-time drinker’s low tolerance for post-alcohol emesis resulting in the entire bathroom floor being splattered with the previous day’s dinner and lunch, and possibly scraps of an ill-digested breakfast too. When the rain is even moderately intense, the road retains water, the three recharge well sunk just for such situations throwing in the towel, wet and soggy and too saturated to absorb any more water.
