A call made by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science for better synergy between the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and private weather agencies is likely to find strong supporters in Kerala. The reason is that the Kerala Government had made a similar recommendation in 2018 in a letter to the Centre criticising the “inadequate observation network” of the IMD in the State. The letter written by P.H. Kurian, the then Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue and Disaster Management), to the Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, had noted that private weather companies operated several weather observatories in the State while the IMD network was inadequate.More Related News
