15.49 lakh govt school students to get free uniforms

The Punjab government will be distributing free uniforms to over 15 lakh government school students.
On Thursday, Punjab Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer announced that the state’s education department is going to distribute free uniforms to 15,49,192 government school students from Class 1 to Class 8 in academic session 2022-23. In an official release, he further said that a Rs 92.95 crore grant has been released by the education department for the purpose.
The state education minister further informed that from the total beneficiary students, Rs 50.72 has been sanctioned for 8,45,429 girls, Rs 32.75 crore has been sanctioned 5,45,993 boys from the scheduled caste category, while Rs 9.46 crore has been sanctioned for 1,57,770 boys of BPL (below poverty line) category.
The School Management Committees (SMCs) will be distributing the free uniforms.
SMCs have also been directed by the Punjab education minister at the price of Rs 600 per student while directing officials to not purchase uniforms from any particular shop.
Additionally, he launched an online portal to get ideas and suggestions from teachers and bring ‘out-of-the-box’ reforms in education.
He further urged teachers to submit their ideas online via the portal to help change the conventional education system and make it paperless, digitally empowered, etc., as per an official release.
