1 dead, 3 injured as Jaisalmer-Ahmedabad bus catches fire in Gujarat
A private passenger bus travelling from Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district to Ahmedabad caught fire early Friday morning near Dhanera in Gujarat, leaving one passenger seriously injured.
The incident occurred around 3.30 am while the 16 passengers on board were asleep. According to preliminary information, the fire is believed to have been triggered by a short circuit in the bus’s air-conditioning system.
The flames spread rapidly, turning the bus into a blaze within moments and leaving passengers little time to react.
Most passengers managed to escape by jumping out through the windows. During the escape, one passenger sustained severe burn injuries, while three others suffered minor burns.
The critically injured passenger was taken to a nearby hospital for initial treatment and was later moved to an advanced facility due to the severity of the injuries. Doctors said the passenger’s condition remains critical. The other injured passengers received primary medical treatment.
Nirmal Raiyani, operator of Swagat Travels, said the bus service between Nachna and Ahmedabad had been launched only about three to four days ago. He added that the fire was so intense that all the passengers’ luggage, documents and mobile phones were destroyed in the blaze.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
