Young Indians plant fruit-bearing saplings around restored waterbody in Madurai

As a continuation of its successful pond restoration project, Young Indians (Yi) Madurai undertook a large-scale tree plantation drive around the restored waterbody in Vadakari near Thirumangalam in Madurai district marking a significant step towards environmental sustainability and community welfare.

With a conscious focus on planting fruit-bearing trees, the initiative aims to support local farmers by providing long-term economic benefits while simultaneously enhancing green cover in the region. In the first phase of the initiative, nearly 250 saplings were planted.

The project envisions planting close to 1,000 trees in the coming phases to fully cover the surroundings of the pond with greenery.

The plantation drive was carried out by the Yi Madurai Climate Change Team and was graced by Karthick Panneerselvam, Director of Mahatma Schools, whose presence added encouragement to the initiative. The project was led under the guidance of Yi Madurai Chapter Chair Vikranth Karmegam, with support from Co-Chair Mani Ram.

The initiative was further strengthened by the leadership of Climate Change Vertical Chair Madhumitha, along with Co-Chairs Yogarajan Rajavel and Gowri Dilip Pavithran, who played key roles in coordination and execution of the drive.

Through this initiative, Yi Madurai continues to reinforce its commitment to sustainable development by integrating environmental conservation with community livelihood support.
