The road widening work undertaken by the State Highways Department at three locations along the Yercaud ghat road is nearing completion.
According to the officials, the areas near three culverts along the ghat road were narrow and it affected smooth movement of vehicles. The road has now been widened by about eight metres at all the three locations and the total length of road has increased to about 15 metres.
The work is being carried out an approximate cost of ₹ 5 crore and is expected to be completed in a week.
Meanwhile, repair works would soon be taken up at two spots that are prone to landslips during seasonal rain along the ghat road.

The procedure of endoscopic removal of stone and blockage from the bile duct, followed by placement of Common Bile Duct (CBD) stent, widely practised in leading medical institutions and private hospitals, was performed for the first time at Government Thoothukudi Medical College and Hospital on a 10-year-old girl.
