CAG audit reveals Arvind Kejriwal's bungalow renovation exceeded budget by 342%, costing ₹33.66 crore instead of ₹7.91 crore.
The renovation work at former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s then official residence, 6, Flagstaff Road, was completed for ₹33.66 crore, a 342% more than the estimated cost, according to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report for 2022.
The report, tabled in the Assembly on Monday by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, also mentioned that out of ₹33.66 crore, ₹18.88 crore was spent on “superior specifications, artistic, antique and ornamental” items.
The construction work was first approved at a budget of ₹7.91 crore.
The Flagstaff bungalow, where Mr. Kejriwal, lived as Delhi Chief Minister from 2015 to 2024, was nicknamed by the BJP as “Sheesh Mahal (glass palace)” during the Assembly poll in February 2025 to highlight alleged corruption by AAP and its national convener. The BJP managed to win the poll and remove AAP from power in Delhi after a decade.
AAP, in a statement, said: “The BJP and its governments are busy targeting AAP in every possible frivolous case. They have been talking about the 6, Flagstaff Road residence of the Chief Minister for the last three years. They have been conducting investigation after investigation and inquiry after inquiry, but nothing has come out of it.”
“The house was constructed for the Chief Minister as his official residence, and it is still there. Arvind Kejriwal has not taken it away. Therefore, all of this is baseless. After the discharge of all our leaders in the so-called excise case, the Central Government stands completely exposed,” the statement read.
