India will be hoping that they would have a more favourable result than what they did when they faced a resurgent Pakistan side in the final of the Champions Trophy on June 18, 2017.
India face New Zealand in the first World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton starting on Friday. The match is a culmination of a campaign that started off with a two-Test series against Sri Lanka for New Zealand that started on August 14, 2019 and a two-Test series against the West Indies for India on August 22, 2019. Incidentally, India played another International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament final on the same day four years ago. On that occasion, Virat Kohli's men faced arch-rivals Pakistan in the final of the Champions Trophy at The Oval. India would be hoping that the WTC final would end in a more favourable result for them than how the Champions Trophy final turned out to be. They went into the match as outright favourites against a Pakistan team whom they had thrashed by 124 runs earlier in the tournament.
Hours after the Tarique Rahman-led BNP government was sworn in, newly appointed state minister for sports, Aminul Haque, said he wanted cases against Awami League-loyalist cricketers, Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, resolved so that they could return to cricket. The former Bangladesh captains served as Awami League MPs and face multiple charges.

T20 World Cup: Zimbabwe missed out on qualifying for the tournament in 2024, but this time around, Sikandar Raza's men have secured their berth in the Super 8. It was Raza, with his inspirational leadership and attitude, aims to keep his side grounded and continue their journey towards bigger goals at the T20 World Cup 2026.
