A gathering of writers, artistes and cultural activists from across the State converged at Nilambur on Wednesday to express their support for M. Swaraj, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate in the June 19 Assembly byelection.
The group, united in their emotions, shared a common sentiment: Mr. Swaraj must win for the victory of secular Kerala. The event brought together a cross-section of Kerala’s cultural community, who came together to promote the message of humanity and secularism.
The Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangham (PUKASA) organised the gathering and named the event ‘Cultural Kerala with Swaraj’. Veteran theatre artiste Nilambur Ayisha inaugurated the gathering. M.M. Narayanan presided over it.
The writers and artistes who addressed the gathering included K.P. Mohanan, T.D. Ramakrishnan, K.E.N. Kunhahamed, Ashokan Charuvil, Alankode Leelakrishnan, Sheela Tomy, K.P. Ramanunni, Karivallur Murali, P.T. Kunhimohammed, T.R. Ajayan, Priyanandan and Vidhu Vincent.
Atul Narukara, C. Ravunni, Manamboor Rajanbabu and Engandiyur Chandrasekharan recited poems. Aziz Thuvvoor welcomed the gathering.
Karivallur Murali released Mr. Swaraj’s election song composed by Jinesh Kumar Eramam and sung by Pushpavati.
The gathering denounced the hypocrisy of criticising writers for openly supporting the Left. They described Mr. Swaraj as a source of pride not only for the local community but for the entire State.
