WRD begins ₹1.05 crore retaining wall construction on vulnerable Cauvery stretch in Mayiladuthurai to prevent flooding.
The Water Resources Department has begun construction of a retaining wall along the Cauvery in Avaiyambalpuram area in Mayiladuthurai municipal limits.
The construction of the retaining wall at a cost of ₹1.05 crore was sanctioned on a stretch of the right bank of the river, passing through the town, had become weak and vulnerable. The wall is built to prevent possible breach or flooding during heavy rain. A drainage sluice would be built at Avaiyambalpuram as part of the work.
Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Siva V. Meyyanathan unveiled the foundation stone for the project on Friday. Collector H.S. Srikanth was present.
