World's most expensive video game - a 1996 copy of 'Super Mario 64' costing $1.5 million

An immaculately sealed copy of Nintendo's fan favourite Super Mario 64 recently fetched a mind-numbing price of $1.5 million in an auction.

We might consider some of the premium games on the PlayStation store as expensive, though none can even remotely match the new world record set by a game for being the costliest ever. An unopened copy of Nintendo's Super Mario 64 sold for a jaw-dropping $1.56 million (~Rs 11.6 crore). The sale was made at the auction house named Heritage Auctions in Dallas on Sunday. It broke the previous record of the most expensive game within two days of its existence.
