The military crackdown in Myanmar has forced scores of refugees over the border into India. However, the influx of Myanmar citizens puts India in a difficult position, given New Delhi has close ties with the Myanmar military.
Myanmar has been witnessing nationwide mass protests against the recent military coup. The ensuing crackdown by security forces has reportedly left 200 protesters dead and more than 2,000 detained, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, an advocacy group. Sources say more than 300 Myanmar nationals, many of them police officers and their families, have entered Mizoram. These refugees are believed to have entered India from the beginning of this month. The police in the neighbouring country are reported to be under instructions to shoot and kill the protesters as the unrest against the military coup in Myanmar continues.
