T20 World Cup: Rinku Singh shared an emotional note for his father on social media after India won the global event on Sunday. Last month, his father passed away following a prolonged battle with stage-4 liver cancer.
Rinku Singh penned a heartfelt note for his late father Khanchandra Singh after India won the Men’s T20 World Cup on Sunday with a 96-run win over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. On February 27, Rinku’s father passed away after a prolonged battle with stage 4 liver cancer at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, where he had been undergoing treatment.
In an emotional post on Instagram, Rinku said he had never gone so many days without speaking to him and cannot imagine life without his guidance. He recalled his father’s lesson that duty always comes first, which motivated him to keep playing. While fulfilling that dream, Rinku said every moment of happiness will still feel incomplete without his father.
“Aapse baat kiye bina itne din kabhi nahi nikale. Mujhe nahi pata aage ki zindagi aapke bina kaise chalegi par mujhe har kadam par aapki zaroorat padegi. (I have never spent so many days without talking to you. I don’t know how life will go on without you but I know I will need you at every step),” Rinku wrote.

The heartbreaking news came while Rinku Singh was with the Indian team for the T20 World Cup. After learning about his father’s death, he flew from Chennai to his hometown Aligarh to perform the last rites. The India batter appeared numb with grief as he helped carry his father’s mortal remains.
“Aapne sikhaya tha ki farz sabse aage hai.. toh field par bas aapka sapna poora karne ki koshish kar raha tha. Ab aapka sapna pura ho gaya hai. toh bas yahi lagta hai ki kash aap mere paas hote. (You had taught me that duty comes first so on the field I was simply trying to fulfill your dream. Now that your dream has come true I only wish you were here with me).” Rinku wrote.
