Delhi's CM plans to transform Narela into an education hub and secure its status as a university township.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday (February 2, 2026) said her government will push for the inclusion of Narela as one of the five university townships in the country proposed in the Budget.
“Delhi’s students will benefit from it. We want to turn Narela into an education hub and will try to get it included in the initiative under which five university townships will be established near industry and logistics corridors,” said the CM.
On January 10, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood had announced a budget hike for Narela Education City to ₹1,300 crore, up from the ₹500 crore allocated by the Rekha Gupta government in its 2025-26 budget.
Ms. Gupta also said that schools in the city will benefit from the Budget proposal to create content creation labs for animation, visual effects, gaming and comics in 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges.
