Here's everything you need to know about popular Punjabi singer and rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, who was shot dead in Punjab's Mansa district on Sunday.
Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead in Jawaharke village of Mansa district in Punjab. Two others were injured after the assailants opened fire at a jeep they were travelling in.
The assailants have not been identified yet. The attack took place just a day after the Punjab government withdrew security cover for 424 people, including Moose Wala.
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, aka Sidhu Moose Wala was born in Moose Wala village in Punjab's Mansa district on June 17, 1993. Moose Wala, who enjoys a fan following of millions, is popular for his gangster raps.
Sidhu Moose Wala holds a degree in electrical engineering and learned music during his college days. He later moved to Canada.
Sidhu Moose Wala is also known for his controversial Punjabi songs, which openly promote gun culture and glorify gangsters.
His song 'Jatti Jeonay Morh Di Bandook Wargi,' which was released in September 2019, sparked outrage due to a reference to the 18th century Sikh warrior Mai Bhago. He was accused of casting a negative light on the Sikh warrior. Moose Wala later apologised.
Another song, 'Sanju', also sparked a controversy in July 2020. The song was released after Sidhu Moose Wala got bail in the AK-47 shooting case. In the song released on social media, he compared himself with actor Sanjay Dutt. A case was filed against him under the Arms Act after a video clip of him practising at a firing range in Barnala village went viral on social media in May 2020. However, he was later granted bail by a Sangrur court.
