On Friday, Sangeetha Sornalingam, wife of Tamil actor and TVK chief Vijay, filed for divorce at the Chengalpattu family court. According to the petition, Sangeetha, 48, alleged that Vijay, 51, was involved in an extramarital relationship with a female actor. Sangeetha and Vijay have been married for 27 years and share two children, Jason Sanjay, and Divya Saasha.
The legal proceedings are based on specific provisions of the Special Marriage Act, 1954, which allow a spouse to seek divorce for reasons such as adultery and cruelty.

Sangeetha Sornalingam hails from a business family in London. She is the daughter of Sornalingam, a London-based businessman, and belongs to the Sri Lankan Tamil community. After watching Vijay in his 1996 film Poove Unakkaga, she travelled to Chennai to meet him.
Their relationship developed through frequent communication while Sangeetha was a student at the University of London. The couple married in August 1999, holding ceremonies in both Christian and Hindu traditions, in the presence of Vijay’s fans.
Sangeetha is reportedly based in London, where she manages her family’s business.
