It is a tragic day for the nation. Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu's Coonoor on Wednesday, December 8. Among the 14 people on board, 13 were confirmed dead in the incident. As the country mourns his death, we came across a statement he made during the promotions of Sidharth Malhotra-starrer Shershaah in Kargil. Bipin Rawat was invited as the guest of honour there. At the event, Bipin had said that he hoped Shershaah, Captain Vikram Batra’s biopic, marks the beginning of many such war movies. He expressed his wish for Bollywood to make more movies that would pay a befitting tribute to the sacrifice of Indian soldiers. Bipin Rawat was on his way to the Defence Staff College in Wellington from the Indian Air Force base in Sulur near Coimbatore. Along with eight others, he boarded a flight from Delhi to Sulur earlier on Wednesday. Visuals from the site of the Indian Air Force helicopter crash showed massive flames and locals helping with the immediate rescue operations.
