It is the company’s latest move to bolster e-commerce services on its platform. Considering WhatsApp does not display ads on its platform, it is the only way it can allow the businesses to flourish.
Announcing the feature, WhatsApp head Will Cathcart, posted on Twitter, "I'm excited we’re starting to pilot a local business directory within @WhatsApp.This will help you find and contact local businesses, like your neighborhood coffee shop, florist, clothing store and more."
