WhatsApp spotted working on message reactions, new search message shortcut and more

WhatsApp recently spotted working on a new search message shortcut and the traces of WhatsApp’s message reactions feature has also been spotted again on WhatsApp Desktop beta.

WhatsApp has been working on a host of new features to enhance the user’s experience. The messaging app was recently spotted working on a new search message shortcut and the traces of WhatsApp’s message reactions feature has also been spotted again on WhatsApp Desktop beta. WhatsApp will soon let users react to messages using emojis. Users will get to choose among six emoji options provided below in a message. The feature was spotted in the beta version of the messaging app.

After testing the message reactions feature on WhatsApp for iOS and WhatsApp for Android beta, the messaging app was spotted testing the feature on the WhatsApp desktop app. The screenshots shared by Wabetainfo reveal that the message reactions option will appear below a message and will consist of six emojis. “The reaction button is not always visible: when the cursor is near a chat or group message, a new reaction button will show up. When you press the reaction button, you will be able to react to the message,” the Wabetainfo report said.

The feature, like most WhatsApp features, is currently under development but WhatsApp may launch it soon considering it has tested it on all three platforms.

Another feature that WhatsApp was spotted working on is a new search message shortcut. WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out the search shortcut to a couple of Android beta testers. The messaging app has added search shortcut to the redesigned contact info page. The same shortcut will be available in group info as well. Wabetanifo report states that the search shortcut doesn’t seem to work so well. “Even if the feature has been correctly rolled out to your WhatsApp account, it may not appear in certain situations. Since this is a beta version, things like that may happen, but the next beta updates will surely fix the issue. This feature is available to certain beta testers today, so be sure to update to the 2.22.6.3 beta version on the Google Play Store,” the report stated.

The features are currently under development and WhatsApp is yet to make an official announcement about same. Till then, the information should be taken with a grain of salt as WhatsApp may entirely drop the idea of rolling out the features listed above.
