Whatsapp may soon let users choose audience for their status updates

Whatsapp may soon let users choose audience for their status updates

WhatsApp was recently spotted testing the ability to select audiences for status updates. This means that users will now get to choose who they want to show their WhatsApp statuses.

WhatsApp has been working on a host of interesting features to enhance the user experience. The messaging app was recently spotted testing the ability to select audiences for status updates. This means that users will now get to choose who they want to show their WhatsApp statuses. The feature is currently under development and will be rolled out in a future update.

The new development was first spotted by Wabetainfo. The website reports that WhatsApp is working on the ability to edit recipients when sending media, for a future update. Along with that, WhatsApp is working on a new shortcut when you want to edit the recipients of your status updates. It has been reported that the shortcut will be available at the bottom of the screen when you tap “Status”. You will be able to quickly select the best audience for the media and status updates.

In the screenshot shared by Waebtainfo, you can see three different options before posting a picture or a text as status updates. You can either choose to display your status to your “contacts”, or your selected contacts by tapping on the “My contacts except” option and the “only share with”. The third option in the list would let only selected people view your status updates. The first option will show your status updates to all your contacts, whereas the second option will show your status updates to all your contacts barring some people on your list.

Once rolled out, the feature would be very convenient for users who do not want their colleagues or relatives to view their status updates. WhatsApp is used nowadays for professional as well as personal communications, but some statues that you upload are not meant for everybody. You wouldn’t want your relatives to keep track of what you are eating or the places you are visiting. Similarly, you wouldn’t want some of your colleagues to know that either. So, instead of not posting images as status updates, you can select your audience and not worry about people getting to know your whereabouts.

Wabetainfo said that the feature is under development and a release date is unknown. WhatsApp has not made an announcement about the feature yet. Once it is done testing, the messaging app will be considered a stable rollout.
