Heavy rains lashed Bengaluru on Tuesday and streets remained waterlogged in many areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Bengaluru following heavy rains that led to waterlogging in many areas. Visuals from the city showed a few people trapped on waterlogged streets.
The IMD had earlier predicted very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the next five days.
According to the IMD bulletin, coastal and south interior Karnataka is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning tomorrow, May 18.
Besides, a cyclonic circulation over the Lakshadweep area and strong lower level westerly flow from the Arabian Sea are likely to cause rains in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Earlier, the IMD notified that southwest monsoon has advanced into the Andaman and Nicobar islands, signalling the start of the four-month seasonal rains.
