Waqf Act is aimed at ensuring transparency in management of properties, says BJP national secretary Arvind Menon. It should not be construed as a dispute between Hindus and Muslims, he asserts.
BJP national secretary Arvind Menon has insisted that the Waqf (Amendment) Act-2025 should not be construed as a dispute between the Hindus and Muslims, and it was aimed at bringing the much-needed transparency in the management of Waqf properties.
Addressing an awareness programme on the Act, organized by the BJP here on Friday, Mr. Menon said the amendments were needed for better protection of the Waqf properties, as otherwise they were being misused by 3% of the minority community.
A vast majority of the Muslims were watching helplessly as valuable properties were being looted. However, as anticipated, the opposition parties were deliberately attributing motives for it to the BJP. The BJP-led NDA Government took the bold step of making the required amendments, and the results would be seen sooner than later.
BJP State president Daggubati Purandeswari clarified that the Supreme Court ordered that the amendments not be made applicable to recognised Waqf properties, and the existing law was not being repealed.
She rebutted the claim that the amendments were intended to meddle with the affairs of the Waqf Boards, and maintained that the Central Government had absolutely no role in the administration of the Waqf properties.
BJP Minority Morcha State president Sk. Baji, party’s State media in-charge Paturi Nagabhushanam, State official spokesperson Valluru Jayaprakash and others were present.
