Viswanathan Anand to visit Velammal institutions; to train students in Chess
Five time World chess champion Viswanathan Anand has given consent to visit Velammal institutions in February and give training to the students aspiring to become top players in the sports, said chairman M.V. Muthuramalingam here on Monday.
Speaking to media persons, he said that the Velammal educational institutions had produced 23 Grand Masters till now. They have brought in laurels to the nation. Likewise, the Velammal is keen to tap the potential from the students and give them exposure.
Towards this, Mr Anand had agreed to visit Madurai during February and impart training, he said and added that the Velammal institutions encouraged students to rise the bar and achieve new high in sports. Be it cricket or football or any other games, the institution would support them both financially and in giving world class training, Mr Muthuramalingam said.
Earlier, he inaugurated the T-10 cricket tourney at the Velammal Cricket Stadium, which was dedicated by Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni two months ago.
The doctors from major private hospitals in Tamil Nadu have come here to play a T-10 tourney and the winners would be given prizes, the organisers said.
The new cricket stadium, situated in the Velammal campus on the Ring Road, has a seating capacity of 15000 and stands second to Chepauk stadium. There are close to 200 CCTV cameras and state-of-the art indoor stadium and international facilities for night play in the stadium.
