Twitter users have blamed Virat Kohli’s “wokeness” for him losing out on India’s ODI captaincy. On Wednesday, Virat Kohli booked a spot on the trends list. The decision ensued a debate on social media.

Indian cricket is in the grip of a major controversy. Virat Kohli booked a spot on the trends list on Wednesday after his press conference in which he refuted BCCI president Sourav Ganguly's claim that he had asked Kohli to not quit the T20I captaincy. No comparison between Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli.Even at height of persecution, Ganguly didn’t hold press meet. Bhajji, Sehwag, Zaheer, Kaif, Yuvi — careers Dada helped build — backed him.Kohli whining for just losing captaincy. He damaged colleagues. So, no one backs him. This happens when someone plays less cricket and more woke. Thank you #BCCIWe don't need woke captain!!#ViratKohli His wife is the biggest woke , anuska Sharma , she has totally changed the character of virat kohli like her woke person of the year is @imVkohli That's why I keep saying...going woke will make you go broke...Anushka did not give him the consequence of being woke. Just look at Fab India as an example. He is lesser woke but he and his wife had understood from today’s incident what happens when you be woke so now he is trying to corner this things

But first a recap: The BCCI last week had announced that Rohit Sharma will replace Virat Kohli as the captain of India's ODI team. The India Test captain Virat Kohli will be available for the upcoming ODI series in South Africa but he won’t be leading the ODI team. After BCCI announced in a terse tweet that Rohit Sharma has been named India's ODI and T20I captain, Sourav Ganguly said he had asked Kohli to stay on as T20I captain. However, since Kohli did not relent, the selectors wanted to have the same man leading in both the shorter formats.
