Violent protest in Assam’s Nagaon after youth dies due to alleged police thrashing

After a young man died allegedly due to police thrashing, the locals in Rupahihat area of Assam’s Nagaon district staged a protest that turned violent.

Tension prevailed in central Assam’s Nagaon district after the locals of Rupahihat area staged a protest against the police on Wednesday following the death of a young man allegedly due to police thrashing during the Covid-19 curfew. Carrying the body of the deceased youth, the residents protested in front of the police station and also pelted stones. Some police vehicles were partially damaged in the attack. The youth has been identified as Shoaib Akhtar of Gereki village, which comes under Rupahihat police station limits.
