
Vintage vehicles steal the show at Republic Day celebration

Several antique automobiles belonging to Dakshina Kannada residents attracted visitors during the Vintage Vehicle Show held on the occasion of Republic Day at the Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru on Monday.

The oldest among the vehicles displayed was the 1929 model of a Ford owned by Krishnappa Uchil. He had also displayed his 1947 Ford Jeep.
Among other vehicles in the show were 1949 Cadillac of A. Kishore Rao. He also displayed his 1948 Rolls Royce, 1948 Bentley, and his 1991 Fiat.
Canara Bus Owners Association President Rajaverma Ballal’s 1952 Cheverlot Deluxe, well-known physician Hansraj Alva’s 1960’s Standard Herald, M. Akshatha’s 1957 Landmaster, Tejas Kumar Shetty’s 1970’s Mercedes Benz, Raghavendra Prabhu’s 1962 Ambassador, Sunil Gonsalves’s 1961 Germany-made Beetle, and the 1965 Willis were also displayed.
The vintage two-wheelers displayed included the Bajaj LML scooter, the RX 100 motorcycle, and the Bajaj Sunny scooter, all owned by Godwin Kariappa. Keith Salin’s 1995 Yezdi Road King, Birosh Sebastian’s 1996 Jawa and 1995 Yezdi Road King, Dinesh Acharya’s 1986 Yamaha RX 100, and Pratham Raj’s 1964 Royal Enfield Bullet were also on display.
District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, and other dignitaries were present.
