Video shows tiger swarmed by safari vehicles in Ranthambore, sparks concern

A video from Ranthambore showing a tiger swarmed by safari jeeps has raised concerns about wildlife stress and the importance of responsible tourism practices.
A video showing a tiger surrounded by safari vehicles in Rajasthan’s Ranthambore National Park has reignited concerns about responsible wildlife tourism.
The clip, originally shared by Instagram user Ratan Bhayal and later posted on X by Dr PM Dhakate, Chief Conservator of Forests of the Government of Uttarakhand forest department, captures what many are calling a ‘safari jam’ - a troubling and common sight in popular tiger reserves.
In the video, multiple vehicles can be seen crowding the tiger’s path as tourists attempt to get a closer look. The animal appears visibly alert and vocalises, seemingly unsettled by the encirclement. The caption accompanying the post raises serious red flags about the impact of such behaviour.
“This ‘safari jam’ shows a critical point in wildlife tourism. When vehicles crowd a tiger’s path, the animal’s natural movement is disrupted, forcing it into a ‘fight or flight’ state,” the caption reads.
It further explains that the tiger’s vocalisation is “a clear territorial stress signal” and warns that crowding creates a physical barrier that can increase cortisol levels, the stress hormone, potentially triggering defensive aggression.

The profiles of at least three of China's leading nuclear, missile and radar experts were scrubbed from the website of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the country's most prestigious academic body. This comes as a series of purges under Premier Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign have decimated the upper echelons of China's military and scientific community.

The aircraft had also been used by senior Iranian officials and military figures for both domestic and international travel, and for coordinating with allied countries, the Israeli military said. Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport has resumed flight operations after a temporary suspension of about seven hours caused by a drone strike near a fuel tank facility.
