Director Magizh Thirumeni has opened up on how Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar reacted to the unfortunate news of the release of their upcoming filmVidaamuyarchi being postponed, from the festival day of Pongal. Vidaamuyarchi, produced by Lyca Productions, is now set to release on February 6.
In a exclusive interview with The Hindu, Magizh said, “We all wanted our film to release during Pongal, and we were all working towards that. The announcement of the postponement was unexpected, and I felt quite dejected. Everyone, including Lyca, were upset and it took us a day or two to get out of it. Even Ani (composer Anirudh Ravichander) was taken aback because he was also excited, and was working very hard towards that date. However, we all understood the reasons behind it. When I expressed my disappointment, Ajith sir said, “Magizh don’t feel bad. So what if our film doesn’t release on a festival day? The day of our film’s release will become a festive day.”
The director further said that the superstar believed that it’s the title — Vidaamuyarchi (translating to ‘persistence’) — that’s been testing the project. “He said that some titles have a lot of power. He narrated the story behind 1976’s Bhadrakali — another film with a powerful title — whose lead actor Rani Chandra died before the film’s completion in a plane crash. He said that the title Vidaamuyarchi is testing us, asking whether we are worthy of carrying it, and that we should prove to the title that we are worthy of it,” added Magizh.
Mostly shot in Azerbaijan, Vidaamuyarchi also stars Trisha, Regina Cassandra and Arjun Sarja. Anirudh has composed the music for the movie while Om Prakash has handled the cinematography.
