Sources said the family members decided to admit Sandhya Mukherjee to a hospital on Thursday after they got a call from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The veteran singer was taken to the state-run SSKM Hospital from her south Kolkata residence along a greencorridor created by the Kolkata Traffic Police.
A medical board has been set up at SSKM Hospital with a team of experienced doctors.Doctors said she had a lung infection coupled with breathing trouble. She has been admitted at the Woodburn ward of the hospital.
The singer, a recipient of 'Banga Bibhushan', and National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer, had a couple of days back refused an offer of a Padma Shri award when she was contacted by central government officials telephonically for her acquiesce.
