Very disappointed: Trump fumes at UK PM for initially blocking bases to hit Iran

UK PM Keir Starmer confirmed Britain was not involved in the US-Israeli strikes that killed Iran's Supreme Leader, even as he approved limited American use of its air bases for defensive operations.
President Donald Trump said he was "very disappointed" with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer over what he described as an initial delay in allowing the United States to use the Diego Garcia air base for strikes on Iranian targets.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Trump said it took "too long" for Starmer to reverse the initial decision. According to the report, Britain had first withheld permission for the US to operate from its bases, before later agreeing to limited use.
On Sunday evening, Starmer said London would permit American access to the base for what he termed "specific and limited defensive" operations against Iran. The shift came after the US formally requested support.
Trump told the newspaper that such hesitation between the two allies was unusual. "That's probably never happened between our countries before," he told the newspaper, suggesting Starmer appeared concerned about the legal implications of approving the request.
The US President argued the approval should have come immediately, stressing the strategic importance of Diego Garcia, a key joint US-UK facility in the Indian Ocean. He also claimed Iran had been responsible for killing "a lot of people from your country".
The British government has maintained it was not involved in the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran that killed its Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
