Tamil Maanila Congress president urges State government to provide farmers with easy access to agricultural loans.
Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Wednesday urged the State government to take immediate steps to ensure that farmers have seamless access to agricultural loans through cooperative banks without any unnecessary conditions.
In a statement, Mr. Vasan said farmers are already suffering with losses due to natural disasters, labour shortages and rising input costs. Because of such economic hardships they are forced to take loans. However, when they approach cooperative banks for farm loans, they are being denied or delayed due to several criteria such as outstanding loans and low CIBIL scores, he said.
Highlighting their plight, farmers have requested that agricultural loans be provided through the cooperative sector without any restrictions, Mr. Vasan said, urging the State government to act swiftly and ensure seamless access to farm loans.

The Ministry of Railways has announced a rationalisation of passenger fares, effective from December 26, aiming to balance rising operational costs while keeping passenger impact minimal. Suburban services and Monthly Season Ticket holders remain unaffected, while ordinary and AC classes see small increases. The move is expected to generate ₹600 crore in revenue and strengthen safety and efficiency across the railway network.
